What are we doing?
In 2008 the whole team will be spending a day out of the office lending its services to Trees for Cities organisation by assiting in the planting of trees on the Isle of Dogs.
There was interest by us all to this year combine the different strands of our CSR policy in the organisation of one event. By 'digging deep' for Trees for Cities this year we are tying together good work for the environment, good work for our local community and good exercise for the team, so looking after our health and wellbeing at the same time.
What have we done? Last year the whole team at Chase Zander raised between them over ?6000 in sponsorship for Demelza Hospice Care for Children by walking just over 50km through the Pennines over the course of two days, equipped with nothing but our rucksacks, tents, Kendal mint cake, our mascot William (a very energetic Labrador).
Demelza is an organisation providing hospice care for over 450 children with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Kent, East Sussex and South London, and they recently launched their Capital Appeal, to raise ?6.5 million to build South London's first residential children's hospice.
The Launch took place at the historic Eltham Palace, in the London borough of Greenwich, home to our offices and just a few hundred yards away from Demelza?s Wensley Close site, where the vital new service for children and families in the area will be built, on land owned by the Greenwich Teaching Primary Care Trust.
This really is an exceptional cause to raise money for, and we are so proud to have helped such a worthy organisation.
What?s next? Ideas are already in place for next years Community Project and plans will be underway in the New Year.
